Samsung Galaxy Cipriani Unveiled: What ZDNet Says

Introduction

Samsung is predictable to announce the Galaxy S23 series of smartphones during Unpacked. If the company follows its established naming pattern, which we expect, we should see the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra.

These names translate to phones with size, price and specifications that align with the good, better and best approach.

Samsung has confirmed that it will use the new OLED screen technology in a new Galaxy Book (presumably the Ultra) that we will see premiere next week. Samsung usually has another device or two to announce alongside new phones, and right now, it looks like Samsung will plug in updated Galaxy Book laptops. The Galaxy Book Ultra is one of the updated laptops rumoured to debut, as it will be the first time Samsung has used the Ultra moniker for one of its Windows laptops.

What is Zdnet?

What is Zdnet

ZDNet is a business technology news website preserved and functioning by Red Ventures. The brand originated on April 1, 1991, as a Ziff Davis general interest technology portal and evolved into an online publication focused on business IT.

ZDNet started as a subscription-based digital service called “ZiffNet”, that provided computer information to CompuServe users. It featured computer industry forums, events, features, and searchable archives.

Launched in 1988, PCMagNet was the evolution of Ziff Davis’ first electronic publisher, a bulletin board established in 1985. From the beginning, ZiffNet was intended to be a common place to find content for all Ziff-Davis print publications. As such, ZiffNet expanded an earlier online service called PCMagNet for PC Magazine readers.

ZDNet currently operates a network of approximately 50 blogs loosely aligned to their main verticals: business, hardware, software, mobile, security, and IT research. These general areas are blogs on gadgets, management strategy, social media, data centres, technology law, SOA, healthcare, CRM, virtualization and sustainability.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Enterprise Edition

Samsung Galaxy S20 Enterprise Edition

With the Galaxy S20 range, the typical differences are there – the S20, S20 Plus and S20 Ultra all have different screen sizes, and the Ultra has a beefy camera system – but this is the first time I can remember feeling like all three models. They are completely different. But more often than not, the differences are limited to screen size or an extra camera.

After using the S20 Plus for over a week and reading Matthew Miller’s S20 Ultra review, I think the S20 Plus is the Galaxy phone to buy. So how do you decide which model is right for you? Especially with the $999 starting price for the S20?

Design

The Galaxy S20 Plus is well-designed, sits easily in my hand and doesn’t feel bulky or oversized despite its 6.7-inch screen. The Quad HD+ Super AMOLED screen has a potential resolution of 3200 x 1440, like all of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy phones in recent years. Besides watching a high-definition video, I can’t tell the difference between it and the FHD+ setting of 2400 x 1080 pixels.

Here’s a specification rundown for the S20 Plus:

OS: Android 10

Display: 6.7-inch, Quad HD+ AMOLED, HDR10+, 120Hz

Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 865

Storage: 128GB/512GB

Memory: 12GB

External Storage: microSD up to 1TB

Rear cameras: Ultra-wide, 12MP, 120-degree, f/2.2; Wide-angle 12MP, 79-degree, f/1.9; Telephoto 64MP, 76-degree, f/2.0; Depth Vision

Front camera: 10MP, 80-degree, f/2.2

Battery: 4,500mAh

Connectivity: 5G Sub-6/mmWave, Wi-Fi 802.11ax, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C, NFC

Dimensions: 161.9 x 73.7 x 7.8mm, 186g

Snapdragon Chip Samsung

Snapdragon Chip Samsung

For years, Samsung’s flagship smartphones have been divided into two camps. Snapdragon chips power Galaxy devices from Qualcomm in the US and other key markets. But other markets, including Europe, have long used Samsung’s own Exynos chips, which are objectively inferior in most cases.

It has been rumoured for the past year that Samsung will exclusively use a Snapdragon processor in the Galaxy S23 series. A few months ago, a Qualcomm executive confirmed that its processors would power more Galaxy smartphones in the future. A report claims that Samsung will continue to use Snapdragon chips until its upgraded Exynos chips are ready for prime time.
