Conclusion
There are a few key things you have to have. A card reader, and if you can’t find one a USB/Firewire AV adapter and a card reader. These are all reasonably price if you shop around If it is just one drive on the G: drive (your system drive) then plug the USB in, run Disk Management. Find the partition that is not mark active, right-click it and choose “activate”, give it the letter “G”. If there is more than one un-marked drive in disk management for which one it is and use this letter instead of what Disk Management thinks it is. If you have more than one drive with recovery software it use the tools from that software to do a low-level scan, they will find and read whatever data is left after format. This takes time but so does sending things out. I’ve done this twice and both times recovered my lost data once we received their hard drives back after they had been erased by other recovery companies.
